For the last 14 months we have stocked jewellery handmade by Shonah since we met her at a Trade Fair. Shonah is based in Melbourne and creates all her pieces from hand at home. Her style is quite unique which is what initially attracted us to her designs, not to mention a completely Australian made product.
Shonah makes use of sustainable wood sourced from Tasmania as the timber backing for her necklaces and brooches that we stock. He father cuts and prepares the timber pieces for her, which she then uses fabric or paper to put her chosen designs onto, including a new range of bespoke pendants. A resin then protects the design, which is left as it is or has a brass charm added to it.
One of the lovely opportunities that we get at Trade Fairs is the opportunity to talk to the owner /designer / manufacturer of a product. Shonah literally does it all, including marketing and selling her designs! Talking to the designer gives you an insight into them as well, it gives you a chance to learn their story, which our customers also like to hear.
Shonah was a music teacher and one time band member, who obviously is incredibly creative which has lead her into full time jewellery making, (although she still teaches a little music). Her designs have been very popular in the shop, we have tried to only have one off pieces with a variety of designs… call in and take a look, her designs are currently on sale! You certainly won’t run into someone with the same necklace!
