Australian Made…

Choosing stock for our shop can be difficult, we always want more than we have space for, or budget.  We choose things based on a number of criteria.  One of the first, is that we do like to buy Australian made, but it also has to be affordable.  Not everything comes from China, we also have items from France, the USA, Italy, Germany and India just to name some others.  Cost is the primary driving factor in any choice, not that we are looking for cheap things, it is more about value and quality for price.

Australian made products often find it hard to compete against a lot of international imports.  Our wages are far higher than other manufacturing nations, we all know this!  We are however fortunate to have found some great products, that are really quite affordable, unique and competitively priced.

We stock a range of cards, designed and manufactured here in Australia, as well as tea towels, kids things, pottery, soaps, clothing protectors, key rings and jewellery.

The next best thing to Australian made, are companies owned by Australians that design here, manufacture off shore then re distribute here in Australia.  This often happens with products that would be too expensive to manufacture here as their sale price would be prohibitive to customers.  These companies are still keeping money within the country as they invest in the design process here as well as sales and distribution.

Of course the best option of all is to buy a product locally made… which we fortunately have… our pottery range made in Bundanoon by Lesley has been popular since we opened and quite frankly doesn’t get more Australian made than that!!

Over the next few weeks I will highlight different Australian made products and companies… Knowledge about  the products we stock sometimes helps with what you choose!!
